I began working on the quiz after finalizing and pitching my content idea to the group. This portion of the internship happened several years ago, and it is unfortunately no longer accessible on Chegg’s website. However, the quiz devised ways a Chegg user could find a new team to support during the 2018 World Cup, as the US did not qualify, by picking a new country based on certain categories. I grouped countries together based on shared aspects, such as climate, economic production factors, and others, so they formed a bracket of four countries, just like how teams are arranged in the World Cup. For example, I placed Senegal, Brazil, Colombia, and Peru in brackets called “Love Coffee?” as all of these countries are known for producing a large amount of the world’s coffee. When a Chegg user picks a specific country, they are displayed several facts about the country they selected. The goal is for the user to learn something new about the country they selected, hopefully.
My goal was to make something that would be a bit more fun than most of Chegg’s content but also provide some kind of educational value. When devising this project, I used principles/ideas from Chapter 5 of Hegarty on Advertising. I thought deeply about what would appeal to Chegg customers, how they would value what was provided through my content, and how it could retain them to Chegg. By making my quiz about the World Cup, I felt I could uniquely appeal to customers and also market Chegg.
